- Are Present and Past Perfect skeletons in your closet? We have got to get them out of there!
Some of my fellow brazilian students have a very hard time using Present and Past Perfect properly - it goes without saying that when it is "continous" it gets even trickier for them. As a Brazilian, I do recognize this has lots do with their mother tongue not having anything similar - even worse, if they get a shot at translating it, it sounds horrible in Portuguese. My strategy along all these years dealing and teaching English HAS BEEN towards showing them that the key element to understand and use the aforementioned verb tenses is to understand their application some determining factors in a sentence that indicate the use of Present / Past Perfect. 1) I have been teaching FOR OVER 5 years 2) I'd just gotten home WHEN you called me (just // when - one action happening before the other) the list goes on and on and on. Food for thought: What is the sentence structure you struggle the most with?

I have tried using AI during and prepping for English lessons and I can quite safely say that it is very overrated. In my opinion the end result is that the student learns a homogenized English, something that will almost certainly evolve into a monstrosity akin to George Orwell's 1984 Newspeak. AI will stifle teacher creativity, allowing lessons to become bland, extremely tedious and almost soul destroyingly dull for the student to sit through! It will also make the teacher lazy. Rather be creative with your thinking to tailor make your lessons for each of your students. Rather have highly motivated students who will be able to use the Language of Shakespeare in the same way that the "Great Bard" did, than to have humourless, beige language that has no colour or vibrancy to it.

- Have you ever come across a study that says fluency can be achieved with around 200 words or so?
Studies say native speakers use as few as 200, 300 words at the most to get by on daily basis. Those who believe fluency relies upon being a walking encyclopedia is quite mistaken. Fluency has more to do with finding as many uses as possible for one expession than the other way around. Book a class and come find out.

It depends on which definition of fluency you use. Most people believe that fluency means vapid language with a severe case of verbosity. To be fluent means being able to convey what you want to say so that the listener can understand. As you said Rodrigo, you do not need to swallow a dictionary to be fluent, far from it! Listen to Native speakers in conversation, we use short words in various combinations to convey meaning. I don't believe that someone can be fluent with around 200 words or so, I do believe that fluency can be achieved with about 500-750 words and the knowledge of how to combine them to make a meaningful sentence. Like what you've just read? Why not book a lesson!

I guess, that the best way to maintain students' motivation is to provide a variety of learning activities. Use new games, group discussions with controversial topics, different interactive resources (genially, wordwall, baamboozle) and authentic materials.

From my perspective, I believe that listening to music does not have any positive impact on enhancing spoken English skills. Even individuals who are native English speakers might misunderstand the intended message of the singer. Moreover, the pronunciation in songs can be peculiar. Singers often alter the way they pronounce their native language to fit the lyrics of the song. So if you enjoy the sound of English-language music, feel free to listen to it, but don't expect it to help you in communicating coherently in the language. Mark's point of view resonates with me, as I firmly believe that podcasts offer an excellent opportunity to enhance one's listening abilities. I suggest recording yourself summarizing the podcasts you've listened to in English, as this method can significantly boost fluency and allow you to track your progress over time. Cheers:)
