  • How do you address pronunciation challenges faced by students from different linguistic backgrounds?

Teaching language requires a great deal of linguistic agility, cultural awareness, and adaptability; also, pronunciation issues might take different forms depending on the student’s mother tongue. Before tackling phonetic issues faced by students from diverse linguistic backgrounds, I determine the particular phonetic challenges that are common to speakers of their mother tongue. This enables me to modify my teaching strategy to successfully address those specific problems. I then use a variety of strategies to assist students in overcoming these obstacles. To create an environment where students feel comfortable working on their pronunciation skills, I continually give constructive feedback and encourage them to self-correct.

Hi Aya, thanks for your comment. Minimal pair exercises, in my opinion, are a really fantastic way to help students learn how to between similar sounds and enhance their listening abilities. Furthermore, using tongue twisters and targeted practice exercises makes it easier for students to get used to unfamiliar sounds and sound combinations. Cheers:-)

  • Is it important for the language learners to understanding the anatomy of their mouth?
    Best answer

It's important for language learners to be conscientious of their mouth's anatomy as different languages have different phonemes. When we are born we are capable of producing every phoneme in linguistic existence but as we learn our native tongue we lose the ability to (readily) produce certain phonemes that we do not use. For that reason it's fundamentally important to learn possible new ways of forming, shaping and using our mouth and tongue from that which comes naturally to us as adults in order to reproduce new phonemes from a 2nd, 3rd or 4th language! The more languages you know the easier it gets to learn more and the easier it is to reproduce different phonemes across different languages. :)
