Absolutely! Watching English movies can be a great way to improve your English skills. Movies can help your learn new vocabulary, pick up on conversational expressions, and improve your listening comprehension but it isn't enough because some movies do not focus on the right use of English and that could be misleading for a learner. I would recommend taking lessons with me, for a trial lesson to see how much you would take from our lessons.

  • It helps a lot, especially with subtitles and audio in English, although it is not enough by itself to learn a language properly.

  • I wouldn't recommend to start with movies as they can be quite complicated at beginning. It's better to watch small 2-3 minute videos and have a pen and paper ready to note down the unknown words. And it would be super nice if you did some follow-up after that, for instance, if you watch a video about food, write a small text about your favourite food after, that can help a lot.

  • Watching movies with subtitles helps with the rhythm of the english. This way is easy to notice when something doesn’t “sound correct” it also helps with spelling. The mind inadvertently catch all this information. This only a complement you also need reading, talking and getting out your comfort zone!

I would certainly agree with this. I have been recommending this for some time. In particular, I suggest British films for those who find my British accent hard to understand at first (many/most learnt to 'speak American' all due to Hollywood. I recommend British films, and even put a page on my site explaining British slang! If you have spare time, and can watch a film or documentary with subtitles enabled, it definitely counts as extra curricular practice. David
