personally YES ! because as an international student too i lean better with people my age or a little older , they make learning easier and more fun cause yes i believe in studying by having fun

The best is to find an experienced teacher who teaches you like a great professor and communicates with you as a student of your age and evaluates challenges with you. This is the joy of languages. 

Its not essential, but learning from someone your age can add common topics that is related to their generation.
