Use practical everyday English, like reading a news article, or talk about the students likes and dislikes. Make your lesson fun and easy to understand.
If you´re a beginner on teaching English, they best way to learn the teaching methodology is to do a course and to get the teaching certificate. The best option is the TEFL certificate, you can do completely online and you´ll learn a lot about how to teach general English. Plus, the certificate is accepted everywhere.
The main thing how I like to interact with my students is making them record voice messages with the new words that we've learned. Also, I'm using chat GPT to find a suitable podcasts on particular topic and for particular level of my student. Overall, I'm using such books as "Talk your head off", "300 conversational topics" to find new ideas for speaking. And don't forget about just regular books like Cambridge book, they usually have General English vocabulary

You can use a variety of materials that target the four skills of language learning (listening, speaking, writing and reading). When selecting your materials, ensure that you select materials which are level appropriate for your student. For general English, one of the things I find to be effective is to include roleplay for practicing using the target language in real life situations.
General English covers all the four skills, Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. For a young child, writing comes later. Firstly, they listen and try to follow the words (for non-Native Speakers) After listening and Speaking, the child reads with teacher's guidance. When the child is about five years she may start writing, usually by tracing the words that relate to the picture. The lesson moves on further for older children with grammar lessons, knowing singular or plural, tenses and then be able to write complete sentences. There are lots of books or video conversation practice from British Council. While teaching elementary students, I discovered that most children are already well-versed in their communication as they would have attended two to three years of pre-schooling. These are mostly from the urban areas. However, children from rural areas do not speak English at all and it takes a lot of effort to teach them.
General English is a popular class for students who want to learn English for everyday use, such as for travel or work. There are many different tools and resources that you can use to teach general English. depending on your style and the needs of your students. Some popular tools include textbooks, worksheets, apps, videos, and websites.
Why not use General English coursebooks? There are plenty to choose from.
Business English, Academic English, and Legal English are all built on General English. General English can be taught in a number of ways, and English teachers choose which way to teach. Personally, I use the natural"approach" developed by Stephan Krashen and Tracy Terrell. This teaching method focuses on communicative skills, with an emphasis on speech acquisition rather than form (as in the still widely used "Grammar-Translate method). It is called natural because it has been based on the natural approach to a child's language development: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and lastly, the study of grammar. Lesson content is shaped by the student's interests or what they have experienced recently. New vocabulary, idioms grammar can be introduced to the conversation without formal reference to their titles. Although it sounds easy, it should be considered by teachers. As it build the base of their language and if teacher is not familiar with the latest method of teaching general English, students will face problem with their understandings.
