Start testI like to start with a "Dream Day Exchange." I ask the student to imagine their perfect day- where they are, what they're doing, who they're with- and describe it to me in as much detail as possible. Then, we flip it with a quirky twist, like, "Now imagine it's happening on another planet!" It sparks creativity, gets them speaking freely, and adds fun, unexpected vibe to kick off the session. It's the perfect icebreaker that feels fresh and engaging! ^^
I frequently incorporate icebreaker questions that connect with students' interests or recent happenings. I truly think this approach fosters a good rapport and prepares them for deeper discussions and language practice:)
If a new student, a casual conversation to get to know the student and let them know about you. If recurring student, a short conversation about their previous days and a review of the last class.
I prefer to start with an easy conversation, just to get the feeling and the mood of the student.
A good interactive questions and answers sessions will go a long way in starting a class
A good conversation or role play exercises from previous lesson topics do a great job.
