phonetics can be catagoized into three main types  
1. Articulatory phonetics : This branch focuses on the physical aspects of speech, production, including the movements of the vocal organs such as the lips, tongueand vocal cords involved in producing speech sounds
2. Acoustic phonetics : This branch deals with the physical properties of sound waves produced during waves. It examines the the frequency, intensity and duration of sounds as well as they are transmitted and received,
3. Auditory Sounds: This branch is concerned with the perception of speech sounds by the human ear and brain. It explores ho the brain processes and interprets the acoustic signals received through ears.
