An active verb describes something that the subject of the sentence/phrase physically does. Example: He plays with his toys. ("plays" is the active verb) If the verb can be replaced by is/are/am/was/were, then it is NOT an active verb. Example: She feels happy today. -> She is happy today. ("feels" is not an active verb)
