One of my students is a very highly educated, bright and interesting person. She struggles with phonics/accent. The hard part with her, is slowing her down to a level where she can take on new information without it getting boring.

Any specific field of study requiring deep analysis and analytical thinking skills may be a challenge for some students. They must know specific vocabulary and be able to express their knowledge in a given foreign language structure.

Start testI found some grammatical structures really hard to digest for students. It may seem simple but perhaps using auxiliary verbs in making questions sometimes baffles the beginners. Also, lack of a sound/ phoneme in your mother tongue makes it difficult for students to grab that easily.

In my opinion most English language learners will find it challenging to learn English verb tenses, phrasal verbs, articles, spelling, pronunciation, and idioms. This is because these are features of English that are very different from most other languages in the world, or which simply require a lot of memorization.
