The greek language has difficulties in terms of grammar and phonetics. The best teaching is that which prevents these difficulties before they confuse the student. 1. It certainly helps to practise spelling with exercises. 2.Understanding grammar with examples. 3. Reading lots of texts and dialogues. Reading aloud also familiarizes the student with oral language and pronunciation.

  • Greek is a difficult language if your mothertongue it's English. A good tip to achieve your goal is practise what you learn with a native or not Greek speaker. Greek do need lots of practise especially if your mothertongue isn't Latin based.

  • Greek has been around for more than 3000 years now and, it was the first language to incorporate vowels into the consonant system of writing that the Semitic tribes had invented by borrowing some ideas from Egyptian heroglyphics. It was from then on that most western languages use that new form to evolve it into their own cultures and so on. So it is of paramount importance for someone who wishes to start Greek to get to master the Greek Alphabet and its particularities, for example the six ways of spelling the "e" sound like ει,η,ι,οι,η,υ or the two ways of saying the "o" sound like ω,ο or the two softer "e" sound like ε,άι etc ...a good foundation on this will help you deal with the dictation of Greek. One plus Greek has is its stress mark that goes above vowels to help you avoid guessing were the stress should be in any word, for example the word Ελληνικά which means "greek" one can see the stress goes on the last syllable!
