  • Teaching writing is a process that takes time and patience. As a teacher, I prefer to choose a topic and divide it into three parts. In the first part, I help my learners familiarize themselves with all vocabularies they will need through reading or listening tasks. Next, in the second part, I provide them with the opportunity to write about the topic. I encourage them to exchange their drafts for peer review, focusing on two checklists: one for grammar mistakes and one for stractural errors. Finally, in the last part, I review their final drafts, pointing out common mistakes and working with them to improve their writing together.

  • Perhaps you could create a shared google doc that everyone has access to and let your students write a paragraph live on the google doc one by one

  • Creating a shared piece of writing can easily be done in a live video lesson. Model the process of writing a class example and challenge them to improve sentences and word choice. Students can type their suggestions in a chat box or take turns to unmute their microphones to share ideas.

  • Some students are great with keyboards, so they can write/type into messages etc. If we're talking hand writing, then I'd say it's very difficult for beginners to be online. As soon as people have the basics, then let them write and show their work to the camera.

  • To teach writing in a virtual classroom and see progress quickly, use clear instructions, and interactive tools like Google Docs, provide timely feedback, encourage revision, and offer one-on-one support.
