When working with beginners, I begin by teaching simple words, and asking easy questions. I use visuals, like flashcards or pictures, to help with learning, and we play games or act out scenarios to practice new words. I also teach basic sentence structure, help students put sentences together, and encourage them to reply using full sentences. To improve listening skills, we listen to recordings or watch videos together. Keep in mind that everyone learns at their own speed, so stay patient and adjust your teaching style accordingly. 👍

  • Use what ever the student is comfortable on doing. If your student feel like writting his/ her language in a piece of paper let it be. There are a lot of translator apps that you can translate what your student language to English. Then introduce your students in everyday English reading . Even if your student is reading 2 English lines everyday. Slowly but surely. Hope I answered your question 😍

  • Good Day, Simple English and basic English are perfect for them....as well as easy-to-understand words.

  • I had a student of 5years who had never been exposed to the English language. Our class was a mixed class, in that I show him an object, he tells me what it is in his language and then, I tell him the English language and ask him to repeat it severally. Our next lesson starts with English and a reminder of our last class. So we are always incorporating new words each day. In a space of 3 months, he was able to relate fairly.

  • i have never cone across a student who was never exposed to English. if ever l am faced with that situation l think l can be able to teach as l will use the direct method, total physical and include a lot of work with images and words.

  • I have a student that went to live with her daughter in the USA and the only language that she knows is her mother tongue, Portuguese. I never asked her age but it might be in between 60 and 70 years old. She is very nice and sweet but I confess that she is my most challenging student to teach. At the same time that she is able to understand, use the new language to make phrases and do the exercises, on the next class it is everything forgotten and I must go back and teach again the previous topics. Anyways, I like her and enjoy teach her. The secrete is to have patience and to use lots of different stimulations such as visuals and texts. But it can be challenging anyway.

  • Yes. I have a team of students who are not exposed to English before. I have designed the format for them where they can translate from their language to English - first words, then short sentences. They are able to grasp it very effectively. The speed is slow but steady!
