I always ask my students to tell me how our current lesson will be or could be, useful to them in the immediate future, either at work or in their free time activities

i typically ask how the lesson has been after every class

    I usually ask them why they want to learn English. I want to know how they will use it. Casual conversation is a valid goal. A doctor would need more technical terms,. He would also ned reading and writing skills. The vocabulary would look different if he were a mechanic.

    Yes, definitely. I always ask my students in the first session what help I can get. For example, some just to learn everyday conversations, some to communicate at work, some in grammar, some in preparation for exams, and some need English to succeed or be accepted at their workplace. Then, after determining the training level, we will start.
