I prefer a communicative approach. The most important mark of progress for me is that the students are speaking confidently, more than they could assume they ever could. I also like backing this up with a lexical approach as well as pronunciation techniques.

  • I am a constuctivist at heart! I think that students are acitve learners who bring their own knowledge and experience to the classroom. They are not empty vessels whose role is to sit quietly in the classroom and teachers pour knowledge into their heads. We, as teachers, should help them construct their own knowledge knowledge of the world, and this can only be achieved through activating their schemata to build on what they already know.

  • I prefer discourse and conversation. Asking students questions, hearing their answers, correcting any mistakes they might have made and then asking follow-up questions. It gives the lesson a great flow and the students get a visible boost in confidence when they've understood something and are able to reply to it.

  • I prefer the communicative approach. My family is from Ireland and we are great talkers :-). Of course while working with a student I will listen much more. I want them to feel confident speaking English, using things like phrasal verbs in everyday conversation.

  • The ppt method is good but generally,any method that appeals to the learner for easier comprehension of the topic should be the best for that learner

  • I'm not so keen on the PPT method myself. I prefer to use books by well known sources as this helps to improve on all areas and opens the learner up to new vocabulary based on a variety of subjects. It's important to use visual materials too.
