Writing is often considered that hardest element - even native speakers often make mistakes, especially when it comes to punctuation!

  • For adults (anyone over the age of 17), the most difficult part of learning a foreign language is listening. At about 12-13 years old people stop listening, we hear but we stop listening. This means we are aware of sounds but we do not pay attention. As a result, adult students are unable to pick up pronunciation of words very well, relying on assumptions based on their own language, which very often wrong. Missing out on the correct use of "a" and "the" with overuse of these words from speakers of Latin languages and a complete absence when the student is a Slavic, Turkman or Sino language speaker. Lack of listening also means that many bad habits learnt at school are extremely difficult to correct, as the student cannot hear distinguish between the sounds and words. When you can't listen, you can't speak. That is why deaf people can't make speak. Like what you have just read? Why not book a lesson?

  • That's a tough one. But since is has to do with the learning process, I'll say speaking (as it encompasses grammar, vocabulary, punctuation and even accent). Amongst these, the accent would seem to be the most difficult due to the heavy influence of mother tongues on learning a new language. It's difficult not impossible.

  • Many people find speaking to be the most difficult skill to master when learning English. Speaking requires you to think on your feet, produce language in real time, and use the right grammar and pronunciation. It can be a challenge to speak fluently and express yourself clearly. Other people find listening to be the most difficult skill, because it requires a lot of concentration and understanding of the context.
