My English language students are most anxious about pronunciation and speaking. To help them overcome these fears, I incorporate various speaking activities in every lesson. These activities include role-plays, discussions, debates, and presentations. I also provide feedback and correction on their pronunciation during speaking tasks and offer tips on how to improve specific sounds or intonation patterns. Additionally, I encourage my students to practice speaking outside of the classroom through language exchange programs or conversation partners. Regular exposure to the language and opportunities for speaking practice help build their confidence and improve their overall communication skills:)

  • Hey you guys Thanks for engaging in. It's a bummer most of our students get stuck because of pronunciation or accent-like issues. I feel about the same in journey as a TEFL educator. I typically go for the same techniques you guys do. Also, I always make sure to remind them everyone's got an accent. Whether you're a native or non native speaker. There's accent variation even without the same country. I take it from personal experience: living in the US for many years, sometimes I still struggle to understand my dear friends who have a southern drawal. When it comes to Brazil, There's so much difference between my accent in Portuguese(I'm from Rio) and people from Northeast Brazil for instance. The important, indeed, is to have a clear pronunciation which does not mean getting rid of one's accent. Can we get rid of our heritage? Food for though. Happy Thursday, y'all.

  • In my years of teaching experience, I realise that students are mostly anxious about articulation and pronunciation. some students prefer to keep quite in order not to make the wrong pronunciation. in this case it is the teacher's responsibility to make them feel as comfortable as possible.

  • My students mostly worry about their accent. they're really concern about how to speak more naturally like Americans

  • Through experience I do find that students are very anxious about pronunciation and speaking, sometimes feeling like they don't have enough vocabulary words to use in sentences. When conducting a trial lesson with a student I ask them to rate their skills from 1-5 to get a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. I then continue to set up lessons where we have discussions and conversations around real topics that are relatable as this helps for better engagement. I always ensure to provide feedback plus letting them know how they can say things better to add more vocabulary. There are other exercises that I include to help with improving speaking skills like reading, listening and writing activities since all 4 skills are interconnected. It's always best to encourage the students to practice what they learn outside of the classroom to further help them in improving plus boost confidence. Hope this helps!
