Is TESOL/TEFL cert worth it?
Is it worth a buck and time spent for prepping and actual exam taking? Will it improve my profile or give me important knowledge about teaching? Thanks for answers in advance.

Depends on how serious you are about teaching. Some students want to hire the best teachers, and feel that formally trained teachers are more reputable. Some companies only hire teachers with a degree. For the record, I have worked with languages learners for 20 years. I have studied both Spanish and Chinese. Now, I’m in school getting my second masters, which will include certification.
If you are serious about teaching English the answer is an emphatic yes. Depending on which training organisation you learn with, you will gain knowledge about student psychology, record keeping, lesson planning and so much more. it is usually a good Idea to study for a 120hr certificate and then specialise in an aspect of teaching, like IELTS preparation.
Yes it is worth it because it does boost your profile and CV overall and when you apply to teach English as a first additional or second additional language, you get a better chance to obtain that job. Also its a good experience to test you English as well.

Hi Max, Many platforms require a degree or TEFL/TESOL Certification, it is worth it. The more qualification you have in accordance with teaching, be it on line or otherwise, you will be noticed and selected. Do it, it will only improve your profile, making you look good and stand out.
I believe the knowledge is useful for begginer teachers. But if you have experience, this provideds way more teaching skills. The cert. would serve as a knowledge boost and a way to prove you have your experience. I recommend a cheaper course since it gets the job done very well. The "TEFL Professional Development Institute" has a great 120hr cert that you can use the memo of completion until you can afford the actual copy of the cert!
