It's generally better for a teacher to be confident and outgoing, as this can help create a positive and engaging learning environment for students. Shy students may benefit from having a teacher who is more outgoing and can help them come out of their shells and build their confidence.

  • My wife was a teacher before we retired, and she used to say "teaching is acting for ugly people", and there is an element of truth to that. Teachers have an alter ego for the classroom. An English language teacher cannot be shy, they have to be able to engage with every single student and coax them to start speaking English, something that scares most of them absolutely witless. If you have an English teacher who is outgoing and exudes empathy and confidence, it will help the shyest student to come out of their shell. However if the teacher is tacit and can't make the connection with their shy students then positive progress and results will not happen. Like what you have just read? Then why not book a lesson!

  • As a tutor, being confident boosts the morale of your student. It gives the impression you know what you are about and thereby fostering an atmosphere of trust between you and your student. This allows you to have a positive impact on your student and bring them up to the place of also building confidence and speaking with fluency.

  • a confident and outgoing teacher can help shy students to be a better version of themselves. teachers "need" to be confident enough, so they can manage the students and the class.

  • hahahah, I like this question, Nkateko. I don't think I am allowed to be a shy teacher. As far as shy students are concerned. I take all students. Part of my job is to build confidence in the student's ability to speak English.

  • Hi As a teacher I can say shyness doesn't affect teaching, but maybe learning. I generally motivate my students. The sly is the limit Beat Regards

  • Of course no one. It's better to encourage our children to be more confident and more comfortable and I think there isn't shy teacher because his job wanted to be more confident with his students

  • Neither one of them i'd say. However, as a teacher, if one is shy, one got to work on it in order not to let it affect their performance in class. While as for having a shy student, teachers need to make them feel they are in a safe space and it's ok to talk. However, it's also important to understand we are not entitled to change student's personality and have got to work with what we have in hands. Cheers from BR.
