Please read with an understanding and kind voice: You can't make anyone do anything. You can guide them to understand the importance of something, but you cannot MAKE anyone do anything. :) So maybe something you can say is practice builds confidence; homework helps with retaining information; doing homework will help the class go faster and learning more efficient so that they get their money's worth. You would still be ok if they don't do their homework, but their tuition will be more effective if they also prepare ahead of time. (That's how I would approach this subject, and I also never think of my students as lazy. Everyone has their own circumstances and I only get to glimpse a minute portion of their lives. I am paid either way, so I might as well be understanding)

  • I wish somebody would make me learn Portuguese instead of procrastinating here)) Being aware of the importance of repetition I still can't help being human, so do some of our students I guess. Having said that, I do give plenty of adequate homework and explain how our memory works, and what the forgetting curve is and the like, and then let them take some responsibility for their progress.

  • CREATIVITY Sometimes more creative projects for homework can make things more fun for students – and this works for all age groups. You can have them complete their homework in any creative manner, whether it is drawing comic strips, creating poetry or short stories, even little skits to show in class. Creativity brings out a whole other side in your students, and it gives them homework to look forward to – not something they dread. As a result, you could find that they end up putting more effort into it because they want to impress you as well as their peers.

  • I believe homework should be done within the class parameters as there is life outside of class. By using the PPP Method, it isn't necessary to send them home with more work and this applies to school age students and adults. Be sure not to refer to any student as lazy.

  • For us as tutors, motivating students to do their homework can be achieved through various strategies: Establish Clear Expectations - Clearly communicate the importance of homework and the role it plays in their overall learning and academic success. - Set clear and achievable goals for completing homework assignments. Create a Positive Learning Environment - Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking for help and sharing their progress. - Show enthusiasm for the subject matter and demonstrate how completing homework can enhance their understanding. Provide Constructive Feedback - Regularly provide constructive feedback on completed assignments, highlighting areas of improvement and acknowledging their efforts. - Offer praise for a job well done, reinforcing the value of their hard work. There's a couple more but I don't have a lot of space left lol - hope this helps!
