I'm afraid that is like asking "how long is a piece of string?". It really up to how serious the student is about learning English as opposed to studying it. You can be fluent in English in as little as six months, but to be up to native speaking will take a bit longer. It is all about learning English in the same way as you learnt your own language. First, you listen (not read subtitles, while hearing the words) to what is being said. Listen to podcasts but NOT news podcasts. Second, start trying to speak by imitating the sounds of the words and using short words and short sentences. Third, start reading books and articles, not just news but anything you can lay your hands on. Fourth, start writing, keep a diary write short stories, even poems! LASTLY, begin studying English grammar. Most importantly YOU MUST BE SERIOUS ABOUT LEARNING THE LANGUAGE, not studying it.

It depends on individual students some learn faster than others. There is no specific period that one can say it's a time frame.

  • I can almost guarantee having a student speak in about 3 months. I know you may think that's too soon but really, it isn't. Obviously, it depends on the level you want to speak. If it's to take a trip then yes three months is more than enough. Young children are different, I have found just interacting with them in English, they will pick it up faster than an adult.

  • In my opinion, it depends upon the student, the teacher and the level of exposure to the language. There are many factors along the process that affects the efficiency of learning.

  • It depends on your situation and your enthusiasm to learn it. But take each day as it comes, progress little by little will soon amount to large steps being taken!

  • The more often you practice , the faster you'll progress .It's important to remember that the learning process is individual, and each person has unique abilities and learning pace.

  • This really depends on how much effort has been put into learning. Some students, based on their exposure to English speakers will take six to twelve months but, it is also important to note that English learning is a progressive journey. It gets better with time and more practice so, as long as there is effort and perseverance then the duration of the process of learning will be shorter. It is also worth noting that the level of English language a person has will influence how short or longer they take to be a fluent speaker.
