Motivate your students by setting clear goals, make lessons relevant to real life, using interactive activities, providing positive reinforcement, integrating technology, connecting to culture, fostering a supportive environment, using varied materials, allowing personalized learning and incorporating authentic materials that align with the student. They are always ready to come to class.

  • By telling them the truth! if English were hard, millions of people wouldn't successfully learn it each year! We only need to find a good reason and a little "pushsh"! :D

  • Smile and be friendly with them and Give them confidence express Themselves without judgement

  • I could pepper my answer with all the buzz words and jargon that litter our profession these days, but I won't. The answer is quite simple really. A sign of a good English teacher is to be able to motivate students by being creative and making the lesson FUN. That does not mean being an "edutainer". It means not hiding behind technology, nor does it mean relying on AI or chat GPT. It means being approachable, cheerful, friendly, professional and giving praise when praise is due. If you have these qualities, your students will see them shining through and that will motivate them to come back to you time after time. You do not need technology, you do not need the jargon and you certainly do not need all the buzz words!

  • The distinction in my mind is two fold: are they sent to you, or did they chose to be your student. Dr Mazz (below) kinda nails it. Students who 'have' to be their could be difficult as you have to actively gain their attention. Students who 'want' to be there will bring their own energy.

  • Smile and be friendly
