Thandeka Mqalanga

Hello! I am teacher Thandeka from South Africa and I am currently pursuing an English education degree at university. I am a certified TEFL teacher and I am a very adventurous person. I enjoy travelling, engaging in discussions and reading books on Wattpad. During my leisure time, I enjoy listening to music, reading and writing poetry, and learning new skills. I do hold a TEFL certificate and I am currently a student teacher. I was, thus, provided with the opportunity to teach English contact classes to small children at a private school for a duration of 8 months. In my classes, the focus is on grammar, vocabulary and sentence construction. This is through reading, speaking and writing exercises. I use a learner-centered approach, in that I prioritize understanding my learner's individual needs and incorporate their individualized learning path, give regular feedback so to ensure that their needs are met. There is clear and structured communication as based on my traditional teaching experience, I provide updates timely so that learner can stay organized and focused and this therefore, contributes to a predictable and supportive learning environment. Henceforth, reflective teaching is highly prioritized whereby, I personally reflect on my teaching practices and seek feedback from the learners so as to improve my teaching methods. In this way, I stay adaptable and open to new strategies for the effectiveness of the my teaching to the learners.
