Soomin

My name is Soomin. I am 26 years old and from Canada. I majored in Korean Language and Culture in university, during which I studied Korean-to-English literary translation and also received some instruction in linguistics. I am also bilingual and am learning Spanish at the moment, so I understand the struggles of second/additional language acquisition very well. I am a TEFL-certified English teacher, having completed a 150-hour program earlier this year. I am also working towards an additional certificate in teaching IELTS exam preparation. I have experience teaching IELTS speaking preparation and conversational English 1-to-1 and to small groups. I am comfortable working with learners of all proficiency levels, from beginners to advanced speakers. I have mostly taught Ukrainian and East/South/Southeast/West Asian learners. My teaching style is learner-centered and individualized; I account for my learners’ interests and share relevant, authentic content to make the learning process as engaging and entertaining as possible. I aim to get you talking in natural, authentic contexts and establish a positive and comfortable learning environment. I can help you improve your everyday English, prepare for IELTS, expand your vocabulary, and hopefully improve your confidence in speaking overall.
