What’s your favorite method for vocabulary retention?

One of my favourite methods for vocabulary retention is making lists, grouping words by category or context, and learning through examples such as sentences or short dialogues. Another way I always recommend my students is to try to connect words to their own lives by creating sentences about their interests, routines, or favs.
If I were to remodel my approach to vocabulary retention, I'd focus on contextual learning. Instead of just memorizing words in isolation, I'd try to learn them through real-world examples like reading articles, listening to podcasts, or engaging in conversations. This way, I can see how words are used in context, which helps me understand their meanings and nuances better. I'd also keep track of new words in a personalized vocabulary journal, reviewing and using them in my own sentences to reinforce retention.
