For me, I made personalized lesson plans.. Students vary from their interests, hobbies, etc.. and it also depends on their level in English.
I use my own knowledge, English websites (for games/activities), group lessons with other teachers, grammar (reading and writing skills, practise reading online articles etc.
Materials should be tailored to students preferences meaning depending on their level of interest. Its best to learn that at first then decide on the materials.

Everyone needs different methods depending on their level and what kind of English they are learning for, your English plans should be tailored to your students needs and shouldn't be made for a one shoe fits all kind of policy. Try to improve them based on their weaknesses and just rely on their strengths to make them confident.
To Teach Adults, I would use five different methods: 1 Approaches to teaching Adults - How can we teach phonics in a meaningful way. -How can we use learners own thoughts , words and sentences to teach them to read. - To allow students to gain knowledge, skills and to apply the acquisition of reading and writing skills in the main language of an Adult Learners. 2 Placing the Learner - How do we teaching new Adult learners correctly - Finding out what they already know. - Should we group learners according to their ability. - Physical difficulties and how to overcome them. -We then needs to realize as adults ourselves , what other problems does learners have so we can identify the strengths and weaknesses. 3 Teaching Reading - Teaching reading with a range of text reading methods. -Encouraging meaningful reading. - The mechanics of writing. - Structing , drafting and editing writing.
Adults too need engaging content, I start with vocabulary after an icebreaker.. asking for a sentence after we discuss the meaning and share a usage sentence asking for them to make a similar sentence using it. We follow with phrasal verbs,, and idioms,, asking if there are any similar in their language,, and a matching quiz.. to see if they get the context of the lesson and then a conversation using 10 questions about "Advice" or "Adventure" to help them with speaking. Teaching small talk.
Depends on their level. I have pictures that I use for assessment. Then set goals. Often they have material to read. If nothing else, short stories or short videos. I would always follow up with dialogue.
To mention a few: 1. Online textbooks: to help improve with comprehensive grammar, vocabulary, reading, and writing exercises. 2. Online resources: Utilize interactive online resources like Duolingo for example to create engaging lessons on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, etc. 3. Conversational practice: I encourage my students to practice their spoken English through group discussions, role-plays, debates, and interviews. 4. Business English: I can design lessons that cater to the needs of professionals who want to improve their English language skills. 5. Media: I sometimes recommend TV shows, movies, news articles, and podcasts to expose my students to authentic English language use.
