Start testAs what I have observed. It depends of a student. Adult students want to enhance their communication skills mostly their goal is to gain confidence in speaking the English language. They also want to learn English language for their work or business purposes. For kids their goal to learn the grammar and correct usage of words and pronunciation. And the most common goal of these two types of students is they want to speak English in a correct way.

You should do very simple and understandable method. You should engage of your students in short stories and in friendly way.
it is to be able to use English in their daily life conversation
Most of my students are looking for fluency, practice, and "natural" English to enhance their level. Although I do have requests for support in exam preparation and this usually requires a brush-up of their vocabulary, grammar, and use of English. Every student has a different need and this should be reflected in our planning and support. I also find a student who says they need support in one area is actually lacking in other areas too, so I tend to do a complete exam as a base to ensure I have covered every part of the exam and then suggest we concentrate on specific parts eg. Reading parts 1, 3, 4, and 6, Listening parts 2 & 4, and Speaking part 2. This usually saves time and increases their confidence in me and themselves so we can achieve the best result possible. The best way is to hear your student but look for the "red herring" as usual, it isn't as simple as it first appears :)
