  • Volcanoes are vents where lava, small rocks, and steam erupt onto the earth's surface, while mountains are large natural elevations of the earth's surface rising abruptly. Some volcanoes are called mountains because they meet the characteristics of a mountain.

Pressure from the earth push the earth's crust up into a mountain. If the pressure is great enough, the melted rock, or lava makes its way to the top of the mountain. It often becomes a volcano, but not always.

  • A volcano is a type of mountain, it has a v-crater, magma, and lava. A mountain does not have any of these components. Mountain areas are peaceful and safe to visit and stay. On the other hand, volcanoes are aggressive and may erupt when least expected.
