In terms of meaning, these words mean completely different things of course. However, with the pronunciation the difference is a bit subtler. "V" and "F" form a consonant pair, which means that these sounds are basically the same, only the former is voiced and the latter is unvoiced. Theoretically, one could possibly mishear "f" for "v" and vice versa. That said, there is little chance one can mishear "leaf" for "leave", considering that they belong to different word classes. Because of their different functional distribution, they won't be confused even when the pronunciation of these lexical items is the same. (The plural of "leaf" and the third person singular of "leave" are spelled and pronounced the same - "leaves")
Leave the bay leaves there. Use only one leaf for the soup.
