What is the difference between a subject and an object in a sentence?

The subject tells us who or what the sentence is about. For example: "We were playing near a garden." In this sentence, the subject is "we" because we are performing the action of playing. The object of a sentence tells us who or what is affected by the action. For example:" He drinks milk." In this sentence ," milk" is the object because it is receiving the action of being drunk.
The subject of a sentence is the person, thing or idea that is doing or being something. - For example: John likes ice cream. (Subject: John- he is performing the action of liking.) The object is the recipient of the action. -For example : John likes ice cream. ( Object: ice cream )
