I might be out of turn, but the above statement/question could've intended to ask something related to "day-to-day" activities or routines. The phrasing could have caused confusion because "day today" sounds similar to "day-t-day", especially in spoken language(..and this is the part, where Barbra can shut down my offbeat theory and say, I actually meant to ask, "What day IS today? Then this question could be longest running question", possibly TIMELESS. Imagine every single day, some could pop in with a fresh answer---"It's Friday!"..."Nope, now it's Saturday!"--and this could go on forever, possibly outlive the internet itself. Future generations will still be answering it). So the question might have been meant to ask something like: - " What are the day-to-day tasks?" - " What does your day-to-day look like?" - "What are your day-to-day responsibilities?" The confusion likely stems from hearing "day-to-day" and interpreting it as "day today," leading to the awkward phrasing.
Great try you were so close ,its wonderful the correct way to say it "what is the day today ? we use what is - to ask for information the date - we use '' The" we are asking about that thing now today -this indicates what we want to know . REMEMBER when you ask about something specific use ''WHAT IS THE ____. keep practicing .
