what is called photosynthesis?

It is a process by which plants and other organisms use to convert light energy into chemical energy. Plants make their food by using the process of photosynthesis.

Plants need: carbon dioxide, water and sunlight for photosynthesis.The process of photosynthesis is when the energy from the sunlight is absorbed by the choloroplast, water is used and oxygen is then produced. 

Well, "photo" comes from Greek and means "light". I guess it's because the plants need light in order to make this "synthesis" from which they fed.
