I started with one student who was satisfied with her progress during our lessons and she recommended me. Additionally a fellow teacher who liked my teaching methods recommended me for classes that she couldn't specialize in. So my answer is: be good at what you do
Word of mouth is the best marketing tool ever. You can always rely on your students after you do great job teaching and your students are satisfied! Happy students make teachers happy :)
