It is a literary device which is used to represent a sound , e.g pop, crack, ssshhh etc. These sounds can be of living and non-living organisms.
My personal definition of this particular word would be “playful” or “fun” in a sense. Some examples: 1. The water ‘gushed’ through the town. 2. The owl ‘hooted’ in the tree. 3. My teeth were ‘chattering’ as we stood outside in the snow.
Onomatopoeia- The naming of a thing or action by imitation of natural sounds. Examples: Boing, clap, gargle...

Onomatopoeia is one of the fun parts of the English language. In simple terms, I describe it as a word and a sound at the same time. Like, the balloon went pop!
I think that the when a word means the same word. Such sizzel, bark, tick tock, ding dong. Not be confused with a pun.
