Absolutely. Learning is a two-way street. The student learns concepts from the teacher, and the teacher learns what strategies work best for the student. This can only happen if there's communication between both parties.
Yes communication is key as it helps the teacher understand the student better and help with planning a lesson according to their needs.
Without communication we are talking to ourselves and what does that accomplish. We know the language it is of no value to the other person.
