the missing letter U in some american english words: color, favor,... etc etc

Yeah cookies/biscuits, chips/fries, cheerios/bye etc 

American versus British English can be a good game to play seeing how many different words there are for the same subject matter I.e. elevator/lift,
Also the difference in spellings I.e. color/colour 

The emphasis and inotation of vowels 
For example my Australian friends with say "Good day mate!" The spoken vowel of "A" in day and "A" in mate. It sounds like "Good daaay maaate"
