In my opinion, teachers are able to help their students but they are not psychologists. It means that it is necessary to establish some limits and there are some boundaries you as a teacher must respect, unless you are prepared to manage a crucial situation of a student.

Absolutely, English is something that is used in daily life, and it's a tool. So if I can better understand where they have certain blocks I would gladly respond and, if anything would see it as endearing if a student texted me. So bouncing off of what I previously wrote, if it is a tool, we as teachers need to consistantly be sharpening that tool to the point where our students don't need us anymore.

Of course, I think students texting teachers to ask for help or discuss the problems can be useful and effective means of communication in some situations. It can be especially useful when students have questions or need clarification outside of regular class hours.
