Though I am Thomas residing temporarily in Thrissur, Kerala, India, I hold the Malaysian PR, I having lived there most of my life. I have taught English at secondary schools in Malaysia for several decades and, among other outstanding achievements, produced 'Top in Malaysia' students in the Cambridge IGCSE First Language examinations of 2015 and 2019. I am sure I would make a positive change in the English-learning patterns of students. I have a Bachelor’s Degree, a teaching Diploma namely ACP and two other TESOL diplomas (one from Trinity College and the other from Sheffield City). I am available to teach online with immediate effect if I am given a request, as I am quite free at present. Most importantly, I am passionate, enthusiastic and energetic enough to fulfill my duties to your entire satisfaction. I can teach English for all Board exams, especially IGCSE and GCE 'O' level, and help students from anywhere in the world to pass exams with top grades such as A* and A.
I have taught Junior and Senior Secondary students in Malaysia, Brunei and Maldives. I have enjoyed myself teaching students from the Malay, Chinese and Indian communities, and received their approbation for teaching them effectively.
I can proudly vouch for the academic, social and personal relationship I have built with them over the years. Their parents extended their unpretentious, cordial and loving gratitude to me for the dedicated service I have rendered. The Management in every school I have been at appreciated my work and bestowed me with honorary letters, certificates and monetary rewards in return although I never sought after them. All in all, I must say I was instrumental to a great exten.t in moulding the character and personality of the students under my jurisdiction. I have thus concluded that teaching is a highly-rewarding career, and all teachers with a love for children would find it worth adopting.
I have just come back from Malaysia after a short teaching tour.
Theoretically, my teaching depends on the goals of the language course regardless of the target audience, be they exam-going students aiming for high grades or private ones bent on self-development.
My teaching style is summarized in one word: eclecticism. Having identified the needs of the learners, I would follow a methodology comprising the communicative instructional technology of group work, collaboration and blended learning as well as the Socratic questioning and answering to arouse the critical thinking skills of the students. The teaching-cum-learning process is effectively student-centred; in this way, the students derive fun and satisfaction while the teacher is thrilled at the relevancy of his style. The daily and weekly lessons are targeted towards the fulfillment of the goals.
I would ensure, too, the learners to be engaged in one way or another throughout the lesson. Language lessons need not boringly adhere to text book either as skills-development is the priority.
