I was born in Chicago, Illinois. I obtained my BS degree and teaching license from the University of Iowa. I have been teaching for over 20 years. My past includes living and teaching in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Cambodia, Mongolia, and Thailand. My passion is martial arts. I enjoy all styles of the fighting arts. This includes kung fu, karate, judo, tai chi, MMA, aikido, and others. While living in Japan, I got into the hip-hop dance scene and made a name for myself. I became so popular in Tokyo that I nearly had to hire a bodyguard to protect myself from recognition. Japan offered me the opportunity to make several television appearances. I auditioned for a physical comedy role on a local TV station and was awarded the part. I appeared alongside the Japanese actress known as Katoh Ai. On two separate occasions, the local TV station came and filmed a documentary about the school I was employed at. So, I had the opportunity to appear on TV in Japan at least three times now. Awsome!
As the head teacher at two international schools in Japan, my duties included
writing the after-school ESL curriculum, training the ESL teachers, and teaching
some of the ESL classes.
I was also the ESL teacher at three public schools in Taiwan and one public school in South Korea. Currently, I am teaching ESL to kids and adults online through a Japanese company.
In the past, I was the 3rd-grade homeroom teacher at CIA First International School in Cambodia and the 1st-grade homeroom teacher at the American School of Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia.
My approach is friendly and relaxed. I focus on allowing the student to express his or her ideas about a topic he or she is comfortable with. I put a stress-free focus on pronunciation and vocabulary development. With adults and kids, I aim to allow the student to use the language as much as possible because practice makes perfect. My kids' classes also involve making the lessons fun and interesting for the students. My lessons may involve puppets and magic stunts as well. This includes flash-cards, guessing games, songs, and body motions.
