I was born in New Castle in the UK, but I reside in Blantyre, Malawi where I teach English and French languages in a college. I am 59 years old with 25 years experience in teaching English language and French. I specialize in teaching students and tourists who are pre to visit an English-speaking, I offer online lessons to those who live far away and have a classroom setting for those who live close by. My specialties are in teaching general spoken and written English to non-English speaking migrants. My lessons are interesting and full of fun. I use the classical ( structural method), demonstration, and group facilitation styles, but mainly, I use the hybrid or blended method whereby I incorporate all the teaching styles where they are suitable. Teaching English is my career and I really enjoy interacting with students from different countries. My lessons are mostly student-centered approach.
I have been teaching English and French Languages for more than twenty years; in fact, most of my online students are tourists and migrant students who need to learn English to be able to communicate with people around them and in their further studies. I have done this for more than 15 years. I taught in two high schools previously before my current job where I am teaching in a college. My lessons at high school and at college are in a classroom setting, and I have been doing this for more than 20 years. Currently, I am the head of the Languages department at my present job. I am very conversant with the TOEFL and IELTS and have been teaching these syllabuses for a long time now. I also teach non-English speaking migrants the basic and professional English they need to be able to communicate and settle in an English-speaking country. I have helped more than 50 students from 7 different countries including Mexico, France, Italy, Morrocco, and Algeria improve their English Language.
My teaching styles vary: they include a structural method, demonstration, group facilitation, and hybrid or blended method depending on the needs and the level of the students at a given time period. I teach students who are new to the language, the basics which include, grammar, sentence construction, and vocabulary in the form of written and spoken English. For the more mature learners who already know the basics, I teach styles of writing, comprehension, and composition. As we progress, I introduce, letter writing, report writing, speech, and other formal documents including application letters, CVs, dissertations, and proposal writing. We will be using PowerPoint presentations for illustrations sometimes. I do give oral and written assignments which are submitted through e-mail. I mark and give corrections the following day. There are times that we have a class discussion whereby we discuss some issues together. My class is always lively and I guarantee that you will enjoy it.
