Welcome everyone,
My name is Andrey, I am from Riga, Latvia and I am 28. I have lived and studied in the UK for more than 5 years in total. Engaged in academic life at the universities of Glasgow and Canterbury. As well as worked casual jobs in restaurants, hotels, banks, museums etc.
I have a degree in International Relations and Teaching. Since 2021 I have taught History to 12-16-year-old students.
For the past 3 years, I have worked with kids and youngsters on projects related to history and volunteering - in class, in the field, and online.
I am not a native speaker and this is my advantage. Once I was where you are now and also had to learn the differences between there, there, their and they're and also struggled with the use of articles.
Languages are not about formulas and remembering specific times it's about enjoying the journey, not being afraid of making mistakes, and practicing, practicing and once again practicing.
EDUCATION:
Finished the University of Latvia as a teacher in 2021.
Bachelors degree in International Relations (UK) and currently finishing Masters in Eastern European Studies at the University of Glasgow. Therefore, I can prepare you to discuss politics, news, and academic talks & I am used to classroom environment in English both as a student and as a teacher.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Worked with children 12-16 yo teaching the history of the world for the past 2 years, got a chance to work online during Covid both 1 on 1 and with groups of 15 students.
Volunteer coordinator with youth 14-30 yo in Moldova and Bulgaria for 1,5 years. Meaning I have diverse experience of working with children and managing adult groups.
My previous experience also involves jobs in hotels, banks, museums, restaurants, etc. so I can prepare you for real conversations on holidays or at work.
Currently teaching children for a private school to get them ready for international GCSE exams.
Lessons are conversation-based where students are the main talkers. Lessons come with topics and presentations (if necessary) always supported with quick visual materials when adequate. The main emphasis is on students to choose topics and themes to boost their engagement and interest. Students are the main drivers of progress and their decision-making is vital to me.
You choose, I guide.
