Take language classes for beginners

The help of a tutor makes learning easier for you. You can always ask a question and get an answer to all your doubts. Try the LiveXP trial lesson, and you will see that working with a tutor helps a LOT. It will give you some basic pronunciation/grammar/language structure tools that help you initially and later.

Learn the Hungarian language every day

Even if it’s just 10-15 minutes a day, ten minutes is better than nothing, and you can learn a lot in that time.

Use music to improve Hungarian

Find a song in your target language that you love, and work on translating the lyrics, maybe after listening for a few days. Add new words to your vocab-learning system and repeat them. I’ve found that the words I learned from songs I love stuck MUCH more than random words I learned from other places.

Expose yourself to grammar topics

Focus early on mastering the basics, but don’t shy away from dabbling in topics that seem over your head — just keep in mind they may not stick, and it may be the first of, say, 10 times that you have to read about them.

Learn new words in context

When you want to learn words, always learn the word in context, not just one word alone. You can use the Word Trainer feature in the LiveXP app to memorize new words with a spaced repetition system.

Start small

Start small for big progress. By committing to just 10 minutes of focused Hungarian practice each day, you’ll create a solid foundation and build momentum over time. Remember, building a habit is not about the duration of your study sessions but the consistency of your effort.

Use the language every day

Listen and imitate Hungarian, read out loud in Hungarian, sing in Hungarian, and talk to yourself in Hungarian all day if you don’t have a conversation partner.

Movie-night

Designate a movie night once a week when you watch films in Hungarian with English subtitles, or if you are at a more advanced level, in Hungarian with Hungarian subtitles.

Think in Hungarian

Try to think in Hungarian at the beginning of the day, try to think about your to-do list in Hungarian (Ma délután 5-kor fogorvoshoz megyek.), or at the end of the day, summarize what you did that day (Ma fogorvosnál voltam. Nem is volt nagyon rossz. Csak egy kicsi drága volt.)
