- how long does it take for a student to be able to speak English fluently and completely?
crwdns2631929:0crwdne2631929:0
I'm afraid that is like asking "how long is a piece of string?". It really up to how serious the student is about learning English as opposed to studying it. You can be fluent in English in as little as six months, but to be up to native speaking will take a bit longer. It is all about learning English in the same way as you learnt your own language. First, you listen (not read subtitles, while hearing the words) to what is being said. Listen to podcasts but NOT news podcasts. Second, start trying to speak by imitating the sounds of the words and using short words and short sentences. Third, start reading books and articles, not just news but anything you can lay your hands on. Fourth, start writing, keep a diary write short stories, even poems! LASTLY, begin studying English grammar. Most importantly YOU MUST BE SERIOUS ABOUT LEARNING THE LANGUAGE, not studying it.

Absolutely, 100%. But be careful, music doesn't have to follow any pronunciation or grammar rules. For example: Rollin' down the street, smokin indo Sippin on gin and juice, laid back With my mind on my money and my money on my mind If you notice, Snoop Dog doesn't like to use his G's on the end of his Gerunds.

By reading, hahaha. I would suggest that a students main goal should be to read a full novel. However, this can be difficult starting out and it can take a lot of time. So I always suggest some other options to build up vocabulary. Phone apps (Duolingo, Duo Cards, Drops) Shorter Articles (Engoo, National Geographic, Comic Books, Newspapers) Full Novels. I also like to read with a highlighter and a pen, constantly taking notes on new words that I have to look up. My first book I read in another language, was covered in notes.

The best age to start learning English is around 4 or 5 years. By this time the young mind is curious and will easily grasp what they hear and see around them. Children even as young as 3 are able to make sentences with 5 or 6 words

To be honest, so far I don't have any particular word that poses a challenge to me to say it out loud, but as for my own case, I found it very difficult to emphasize words at the very end of a sentence. Probably I'm short of breath, I think.
