Actually, I recently dealt with this in one of my group classes. The youngest student, about 10 years old was noticeably disengaging, drawing on his notes etc. So I changed my technique of practice. Instead of asking questions in rounds where each student answered in turns, I started asking groups of questions to one student at a time. This child received 5 questions back to back that he had to answer. Then when his turn was over I invited him to enjoy drawing a picture for the class while I focused on the next student and their questions. It brought his focus back to me when I needed it and maintained equilibrium innthw virtual classroom
