- How I should use word compression?
Compression or just pressure?
crwdns2631929:0crwdne2631929:0
NNatashaJN NDear Argo.don , in linguistics there is one rule of the thumb : there is no such thing as a perfect synonym , which means no synonym is the same as the original word. So no , you cannot use pressure and compression interchangeably. You would say : to put pressure, to pressure, to press, to pressurize, to apply pressure , blood pressure, political pressure, psychological pressure, emotional pressure , economic pressure etc vs compression is reduction in volume causing an increase in pressure of the fuel mixture in an internal combustion engine etc .........I remember the word from some IELTS academic and TOEFL coursebooks as well......It was used in a reading passage about distillation and compression chambers , as far as I remember : )

- take something up a notch
What is the meaning of "take something up a notch"?
crwdns2631929:0crwdne2631929:0
A notch is a mark on something, like a piece of wood, and was used as a guide or a way of counting or measuring things. If you think of a volume knob on a radio, you turn it up to make the sound louder and you turn it down to make the sound quieter. In the same way, you can take something up a notch to increase its intensity or quality. Example - At a recent meeting, the manager asked the team to take it up a notch so that they surpassed last month's figures. Hope this helps.

Splurge is to spend freely or extravagantly, and properly is a synonym (another word) for accurately, correctly, efficiently etc. If your question was "when can I use 'splurge' properly in a sentence?" The answer would be when when you do something 'extra' than you do normally. Examples: I've splurged about $2500 on clothes. Blood began to splurge out her veins. I won the lottery and I will splurge on the party tonight. Hope it helped you
