- What's your best advice for someone who is struggling, surprisedly so, to learn a third language?
crwdns2631929:0crwdne2631929:0
Just like how it can feel odd to drive a new car initially, diving into a new language can also bring its own challenges. It's okay to find it hard at first! Each language has its unique features, similar to how different cars respond differently on the road. Consistency is crucial when it comes to learning a language. Instead of long, infrequent study sessions, aim for a bit of practice every day. Just as driving relies on muscle memory, language learning thrives on repeated exposure. 😎
- How would you describe you experience with online teaching/ learning so far
crwdns2631929:0crwdne2631929:0
My journey in online teaching has been a mix of fulfilling and challenging experiences. A significant perk is the flexibility it brings. I can connect with students from all over the world, which not only expands my teaching reach but also allows me to learn about different cultures. On the flip side, traditional classrooms provide the benefit of immediate feedback and interaction. Being present with students lets me observe their body language and adjust my teaching in real-time, while online teaching demands more preparation to maintain engagement, often through interactive tools and multimedia resources. In the end, both approaches have enriched my teaching style, each with its own unique advantages. 😎
- How to teach sentences
How do you as a tutor, go about teaching a student who is B2 level, how to form sentences if that's their main learning goal?
crwdns2631929:0crwdne2631929:0
Start by briefly discussing the basic sentence structure (subject + verb + object) to assess their skills. Provide sentence prompts for practice. Engage them in context-oriented activities, such as role plays, that encourage natural sentence formation in various scenarios. Lastly, ensure to review previously learned material from time to time to reinforce their knowledge and increase their confidence. 😎

To learn vocabulary for comprehension effectively: 1. Focus on High-Frequency Words: Study common words in academic and comprehension contexts. 2. Use Past Passages: Practice with old comprehension texts to spot recurring vocabulary. 3. Learn Synonyms: Memorize synonyms of common words, as passages often vary word choice. 4. Use Context Clues: Train yourself to infer meanings based on surrounding words. This approach makes it more likely you'll encounter words you know in comprehension exercises.

- How do you start teaching an A1 level student with absolutely no prior knowledge of the language?
There are many approaches to teaching beginners. How do you prefer to go about it?

Creating a comfortable learning environment for students is essential, along with guiding them so they know where to begin. Then, I start teaching them from there. I have many foreign students learning Vietnamese at A0-A1 level. This is how I support them: I start by asking a few question to understand the student better: their interests, their learning goals, etc... Then I ask if they'd like to begin with pronunciation and greetings. If the student agrees, we move forward with that.

- What is the biggest challenge you’re facing in learning the English language?
crwdns2631929:0crwdne2631929:0
As a tutor, I believe that one of the biggest challenges students face in learning English is building confidence in speaking. Many students, feel shy about making mistakes, so tutors are to work together with them on fun conversation activities to boost their confidence. For those preparing for exams, focusing on targeted grammar and listening skills makes a huge difference. I have met students who find vocabulary tricky, using interactive games will make learning new words enjoyable and memorable for them. Each student’s journey is unique, and lessons should be customised to fit their needs and goals.
