Hi, Hangul Buddies~! My name is Nayoung, and I’m so excited to help you on your journey to learn Korean! I’m 20 years old and currently a sophomore at the University of California, Riverside, studying Statistics to pursue a career as an actuary. While my major is focused on numbers, I’ve always been passionate about teaching—especially Korean and Mathematics. Fun fact: I originally wanted to major in Education, but my parents encouraged me to choose a more stable career path. Despite this, I’ve gained valuable teaching experience through volunteering with kids and adults during high school, proving that age is just a number when it comes to passion! Outside of academics, I can’t live without music—I love playing the guitar and drums, singing, and discovering new tunes. I’m also a huge sports fan and have played Judo, badminton, softball, and basketball. I can’t wait to bring my energy and enthusiasm to our lessons and make learning Korean fun and engaging for you all! 😊🎉
During high school, I taught at a weekly Korean School for four years, working with students of all ages.
For younger children, I used creative methods like teaching through song lyrics and storytelling with puppets to make learning engaging and fun. These activities captured their attention and made lessons both enjoyable and effective. While following the textbook is important, I prioritize maintaining students’ interest and encouraging active participation through innovative teaching techniques.
Teaching adults presented a different challenge. I conducted regular assessments to evaluate their progress and identify areas for improvement. My lessons were tailored to their needs, focusing on practical grammar and vocabulary while incorporating real-life examples to make Korean relevant and useful in their daily lives. I simplified complex concepts and used relatable scenarios to help them grasp the language naturally.
