Digital nomad; Adventurous oldie(69) English(native) speaking South African expat , currently living in Istanbul, Turkey.
I love exploring Istanbul and writing about my experiences. I also walk for fun and exercise and read good literature, besides learning to speak Turkish and enjoying Turkish culture.
I ran a private after hours English Academy in Cape town, tutoring mostly (ESL) Korean school kids. The academy operated for round 7 years (2008-2015)
Since then, I have been tutoring on Zoom and other language platforms.

I prefer one-on-one teaching. It gives both student and teacher an opportunity to get to know each other better, and establish a bond of friendship.
I believe in a holistic approach to teaching. The student should be comfortable with the level of English and the course material, even if it is just a free conversation.
The student and teacher need to form a good working relationship as they both need to adapt to each other's character and personality. Therefore, we spend the trial lesson getting to know each other well.
We talk about our goals and hobbies and try to find some common ground.
The atmosphere in the classroom is always relaxed and friendly.
Classes move along at a pace that is largely determined by the learning ability of the student.
Towards the end of each lesson, there will be concluding comments and points to work on.
Students are welcome to make practical suggestions so as to improve their learning experience.
