Hey there!
My name is Mariam, I originally come from Tbilisi, Georgia but currently I am an undergraduate student at American University in Bulgaria (AUBG), double-majoring in Psychology, Political Science, and International Relations, complemented with a minor of Integrated Marketing Communications.
Outside of academic pursuits, I am an active Alumna of the prestigious cultural exchange program funded by the U.S. Department of State called FLEX (Future Leaders Exchange) and WYLET (Workshop for Youth Leaders in English Teaching) which is annually held in Washington D.C.
Traveling to new countries and exploring foreign cultures is something I am always delighted to experience. The same principle applies to anything that is related to art: painting, photography, woodwork, ceramics, you name it, and I have probably tried my luck with it at least once :)
My experience as an English language teacher dates back to 2020 when I started volunteering for a student-led NGO called "Parea". A year later I started working as a Curriculum and Instructions Specialist for both English and Georgian at an International Organization "Language Unites Us". Over the course of two years, I completed nearly 200 hours of teaching and lesson planning, gaining valuable experience on how language learning can be structured to ensure effectiveness, as well as enjoyment in the process.
With C2 Proficiency Certification from British Council Georgia, completion of English Teaching Workshop at American Corner Tbilisi and WYLET (Workshop for Youth Leaders in English Teaching) at American Councils Headquarters in Washington D.C., I have had the privilege of acquiring information from the most experienced professionals in this field. Keeping these diverse experiences in mind, I created an all-inclusive languages, backed by psychologically proven study techniques.
My lessons tend to be filled with educational games and activities, as well as, elements of cultural, societal, or philosophical information. Having experience working with students of all ages, backgrounds, and proficiency levels, I tend to encourage critical thinking and a positive attitude towards learning the most.
That said, if I had to describe my teaching style in one word, it would be DEMOCRATIC. Some may find it odd but I enjoy giving freedom to my students with deciding what our meetings will look like. That includes having or NOT having homework, lesson topic proposals, and even, the materials we use.
As this long autobiography comes to an end, I would like to share a quote from Theodore Roosevelt with you, which I live by every day: "To educate a person in the mind but not in morals is to educate a menace to society".
