Declan Casey

Hi! My name is Declan, and I am a tutor of English and Arabic from Manchester. I have a passion for languages, and I am a successful language learner myself. I am fluent in French as well as Arabic and English, and I have lived in France and Egypt. Because of this, I am also able to teach the Egyptian dialect of Arabic. I have worked for over 2 years in language schools in the UK and Egypt. I also have a proven track record of academic excellence, being awarded 2 prizes for outstanding achievement in French language, receiving the highest grade in my group in Arabic language, and graduating within the top 0.5% of graduates from the School of Social Sciences at the University of Manchester. So I have a lot of knowledge about my subject! About me, I love reading, film, and I am very interested in politics and current affairs. But I don't only like staying by myself! I am very sociable, and I like going out with my friends. You'll often find me dancing at the weekend! I have a CELTA certificate from Cambridge for teaching English as a foreign language. The skills gained in this can also be used for teaching French and other languages. I have also previously learned French, Arabic, and Russian, and I have seen lots of different teaching styles. I am aware of what is effective in language teaching, and how to effectively learn languages. I have also worked in International House Manchester and International House Cairo, both of which are renowned for their high-quality English language teaching. I use a communicative approach to teaching, and classes will focus mainly on interaction and conversation, even when teaching grammar. I aim to make you feel comfortable in classes, since students learn most effectively while relaxed. During my CELTA course, I learned a number of the most up to date teaching techniques, that have been extensively researched by the University of Cambridge. During my time at International House Manchester and International House Cairo, I have taught lots of different nationalities and lots of different speakers from different languages. We can focus on what you want to learn, and we can use lots of different authentic materials depending on what you want to learn, such as articles, films, songs, etc. Equally, if you prefer a more traditional learning style, we can use a textbook.
