My name is Asa, I'm from the United States, but I've spent a lot of time living in Italy. I love travelling, even though I haven't done it as much as I'd like to. I'm a huge fan of movies (I watch too many, probably), and I try and sketch whenever possible! One of my favorite activities is just to... walk around. Not like, hiking or anything like that. I am a certified English teacher who has been teaching English to children and adults in a variety of contexts for three years, and I love it! I have worked with children from different ages, most falling within the range of 6-12 years old. I have taught grammar, reading, and pronunciation. On top of that, I have experience with college students and adults. I have worked both in 1-1 private lessons and group settings.
My experience teaching children has often been in a classroom setting, but many times in summer camps, where we used sports and other games as avenues for language teaching. I have worked with college students, preparing them for their academic journeys, and adults hoping to expand their career opportunities.
Having learned a second language myself (I speak Italian fluently), I know the struggles and difficulties of a language learner. I relate to their obstacles and their disappointments. This gives me the ability to sympathize with their challenges and adequately address their needs. My teaching philosophy is student-oriented, and their needs are my highest priority.
Therefore, my biggest goal is to foster an environment where the student feels accepted and welcome—welcome to learn, improve, and even to make mistakes in a non-judgmental setting.
My teaching style can be described as "inductive." That means that I don't want to just list a bunch of grammatical principles and give the students drills to practice. I want to lead the student on a journey where we work together to discover the grammar and vocabulary and then use that in real-world settings.
